A Day in the Studio
It doesn't begin with an alarm.
Birds first. Always birds first.
Then the deer in the fields beyond the garden, most mornings they're there. You watch them for a while before doing anything else. There is no reason to rush. Nothing is going anywhere.
Then yoga. Or Pilates. The body needs attention before the work does.
Breakfast from eggs laid that morning by our own chickens. Juice from fruit picked up at the market. A walk around the garden, what's flowering, what's changed overnight, what the animals need. We have a menagerie. They come before the emails do.
Eventually, the studio.
It smells extraordinary in here. Always does. Essential oils layered over each other, warm soy wax, something green and botanical underneath everything. It is impossible to feel hurried in a room that smells like this.
The orders are checked. The making begins. Each fragrance blended by hand, each candle poured carefully and left to set slowly. No production line. No quota. Just the work, done at the pace it deserves.
Some days more gets made than others. Some days the garden needs more attention, or the children do, or the animals do. That is not a failure of productivity. That is the point.
Family first. Always. The fragrances are made around life, not instead of it.
That is what slow fragrance actually means.
